Walking the Lark Force trek

BAINING MOUNAIN TREKKING

Many who like adventure tourism will enjoy their visit to Rabaul, Kokopo, Gazelle and Pomio in East New Britain Province because there are sufficient opportunities for bush walking and trekking.  In the Baining areas, trekkers can start walking from Rounsetna to Yalam, then by boat from Lassul Bay to Rabaul.

BUSH TREKKING IN RABAUL
In Rabaul, people can walk from Volavolo Village to Mt. Mother (Mt. Kabiu) and then climb the Mt. Mother which is the tallest mountain that stands at 700 meters.  This is a one-day trek. Alternatively, people can climb Mt. Mother from Matalau Village which is an hour’s climb.  Rabaul Hotel can organize your climb to Mt. Mother. You can also do trekking on Mt Vulcan on the Rabaul-Kokopo Road.

POMIO TREKKING
If you are in Pomio District, which is accessible by vehicle or boat then try walking the Muruk Cave. The trek starts from Pomio to Olaipun and then to Muruk Cave.  It is a one-day trek. Trekkers can also walk from Muruk Cave to Kavakuna Cave and to Pomio Substation which is also a one-day trek. Trekkers can also walk from Kavakuna Cave in Pomio to Masawari to Bialla in West New Britain.  It is a one-week trek.

WALKING AND TREKKING [BAINING WORLD WAR II AUSTRALIAN LARK FORCE TREK].
The Baining World War II Australian Lark Force “Escape from Rabaul” Trek in the Baining and Pomio areas is longer than the famous Kokoda World War II Trek.
